Men's Soccer Cruises to 7-0 Victory Over Pratt

Box Score DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team improved to 14-5 overall with a 7-0 victory over visiting non-conference opponent Pratt Institute on Wednesday evening at the Westside Athletic Complex. The Cannoneers dropped to 2-13.

It was a well balanced attack for the hosts as seven different players tallied goals. WestConn controlled play as they outshot the visitors by a 37-3 margin.

Senior forward Afa Reyes (Bridgeport, Conn.) put WestConn ahead for good when he fired home a penalty kick attempt early in the first half. Moments later, classmate Ricardo Rodriguez (Danbury, Conn.) took a feed from rookie Daniel Russo (Trumbull, Conn.) and ripped a low liner into the corner of the net, good for his third goal of the season, extending the WestConn advantage to 2-0.

The hosts would round the opening half out at 3-0 when sophomore Daniel Villalba (Fairfield, Conn.) dribbled around the charging Pratt goalkeeper and tapped the ball into the wide open twine.

WestConn would continue to dominate the second half. Freshman forward Jordan Dacosta (Jamaica, N.Y.) netted his sixth goal of the year before classmate Zachary Lombardo (Middletown, Conn.) earned his first career goal. Junior Marc Kyriakidis (Pleasantville, N.Y.) and rookie Lucas Silva (Naugatuck, Conn.) would round out the barrage.

The lone bright spot for Pratt came from senior goalkeeper Carter Boliek (Fayetteville, N.C.). Despite allowing seven goals, he notched some outstanding saves and finished with 12 for the contest. Four different players shielded the WestConn twine and combined to record two stops.

Additionally, the game marked Senior Night for six WestConn players. Daniel Szabo (Trumbull, Conn.), Matthew Restrepo (Bridgeport, Conn.), Paul Costa (Bridgeport, Conn.), Harrison Allers (Wilton, Conn.), Reyes and Rodriguez.

WestConn returns to action for their regular season finale against visiting Little East Conference foe Southern Maine on Saturday at 10 a.m. This weekends results will determine seeding in the LEC Postseason Tournament slated to begin on Tuesday.
