Women's Soccer Suffers First Loss of Season, Edged at Stevens, 1-0

Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. - After a 14-0 start to the season, the WestConn women's soccer squad suffered its first loss of the campaign as they were edged, 1-0, at non-conference opponent Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday night at Debaun Athletic Complex. With the win, Stevens improved to 6-5-3.

The hosts notched the lone goal of the contest 19:09 into the first half when Oliva Panko found the back of the net off a pass from Fiona Matthews.

WestConn nearly tallied the equalizer early in the second half. Junior Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.) - WestConn's leading scorer - had her shot blocked and senior Lillian Daniels (Bethel, Conn.) ripped an attempt off the crossbar just seconds later.

It was a tightly contested match as the hosts finished just ahead in shots, 13-9, and corner kicks, 7-6.

WestConn senior goalie Karly Martin (Bristol, Conn.) dropped to 14-1 overall and finished with three saves, while Stevens netminder Izzy Didario stopped four WestConn shots to earn the win.

WestConn will look to rebound when they host Little East Conference foe UMass-Boston on Saturday at 5 p.m. on Senior Night.
