DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball team improved to 11-5 overall and 3-1 in Little East Conference play with a pair of wins over Salem State and Castleton University on Saturday afternoon at Feldman Arena.
In the opener against league nemesis Castleton, the hosts would come away with the win, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-14). Senior middle hitter
Abbi Debes (New Milford, Conn.) tallied a match-high nine kills, while graduate students
Victoria Korzan (Southbury, Conn.) and
Ali Brochu (Winsted, Conn.) chipped in with seven apeice. Junior setter
Rory McMaster (Canton, Mich.) dished out 25 assists, while graduate student
Skylar Kellam (Fishkill, N.Y.) notched a match-high 10 digs.Â
Salem State would notch its second victory of the season, improving to 2-10 overall with a five-set win over Castleton in the mid-afternoon match. The Spartans would drop to 4-9.
In the finale, WestConn stormed past Salem State, 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-9). Debes racked up another match-high of 10 kills while committing just one error. McMaster tallied 38 assists, while Korzan earned 13 digs.Â
WestConn gets the week off and returns to action next Saturday when they host a tri-match with undefeated LEC rival Plymouth State and the College of Mount Saint Vincent at Noon.
