CASTLETON, Vt. - Freshman forward
Lorenzo Lauria (New Haven, Conn.) tallied a pair of goals to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer squad to a 5-2 victory at Little East Conference foe Castleton University on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the visitors improved to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in league play, while the hosts fell to 2-8 and 1-2.
The Spartans jumped ahead with a goal from 30 yards out that snuck underneath the crossbar less than three minutes into the contest.Â
WestConn retaliated with a 3-0 run. Lauria sparked the rally with his fifth goal of the season on a blast from inside the box. Classmate
Kadin Talho (Waterbury, Conn.) then knocked in a header before Lauria struck again with a one-time shot off a feed from senior
Afa Reyes (Bridgeport, Conn.), widening the gap to 3-1.Â
Castleton sliced the deficit to 3-2 in the 69th minute of play. However, WestConn quickly countered with a Reyes goal less than a minute later to recapture the two-goal margin. Sophomore
Kent Eannarino (Brookfield, Conn.) would round out the count when he found the back of the net shortly before regulation concluded.Â
WestConn returns to action for a non-conference matchup at Saint Joseph's College - Long Island on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
