Women's Soccer Stretches Win Streak to Five with 3-0 Victory at Rhode Island College

PROVIDENCE, RI – Rookie forward Kaleigh Panek (Shelton, CT), seniors Aileen Maloney (Trumbull, CT), and Allison Oakley (Beekman, NY) each scored as the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team pushed its win streak to five games with a 3-0 shutout victory at Little East Conference foe Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. With the win, the Colonials improved to 7-6 overall and 4-1 in league play, while the Anchorwomen dropped to 5-7 and 2-3.

The visitors drew first blood just 10:53 into the contest when Panek came out of a scrum in the box and fired home her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

The Colonials widened the gap to 2-0 in the 27th minute when junior Bailey McCollum (Cold Spring, NY) fed Oakley for her second marker on the year.

WestConn tacked on an insurance goal to make it 3-0 in the 82nd minute when Maloney ripped a penalty shot into the twine.

For the contest, the visitors outshot the hosts, 19-9, while also holding the advantage in corner kicks, 8-1.

Rookie goalkeeper Kelly Martin (Bristol, CT) improved to 2-0 and racked up four saves for the Colonials, while junior Erica Edwards (N. Kingstown, RI) fell to 3-6 and recorded two stops for RIC.

"It was another well-balanced attack from our team. Any day you can get a league win is a good day," said WestConn head coach Alex Harrison following the action.

The Colonials return to action at non-conference opponent Lasell on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
