Box Score After playing to a thrilling 4-4 tie against Scranton on Saturday, the Western women's soccer team returned to action on Wednesday, earning a 2-0 shutout win at non-league foe Centenary. With the win, the Colonials improved to 3-2-1 overall.
The Colonials drew first blood when sophomore forward Allison Oakley (Beekman, NY) dribbled past a defender and blasted a shot into the right corner less than six minutes into the contest. The visitors continued the barrage, but did not manage add to the lead, finishing the first half with an 18-4 shot advantage, good for a 1-0 lead at the break.
The second half saw much of the same. Western outshot the hosts 17-3. They extended the lead to 2-0 in the 64th minute when rookie Jenna Barron (New Milford, CT) chipped in a goal off a feed from junior forward Autumn Sorice (Bethel, CT).
Western netminder Jillian Fernandez (Columbia, CT) notched four saves to earn the shutout, while Centenary goalie Kaitlin Marold turned aside 18 shots.
The Colonials return to action for their LEC opener at Keene State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
