Box Score FARMINGDALE, NY - For the second straight day, the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team won the game 2-1 in overtime. On Sunday, junior Celia DeVoe buried a free kick from 30 yards out in the 106th minute at the Rams Classic at Farmingdale State College.
The Colonials have now won three games in a row since dropping their opener against Farmingdale back on September 1.
On Saturday, Autumn Sorice scored with 1:43 left in the second overtime to lift the Colonials over RPI.
DeVoe finessed the ball over the reach of Erica Knudsen who came on in relief of starting netminder Jessica McCarey in the 70th minute. It was her first goal of the season.
The Bengals got on the scoreboard in the 40th minute when Catherine Mammoser scored off a rebound.
Sorice put away a loose ball in the 65th minute to knot the game at 1-1. She now leads the team with three goals, half of the Colonials six markers on the year.
Sophomore Jillian Fernandez earned the win in goal for Western. She made six saves as Buffalo State attempted 13 shots on the afternoon.
McCarey made four saves while Knudsen turned away a pair of shots.
Western plays host to Vassar College on Tuesday, September 8 in the Colonials home opener. Game time is slated for 7 pm.
