All is well on the Western (Connecticut) front, Colonials defeat Golden Bears, 2-0

Box Score

DANBURY, CT - Goals by Lindsay Jossick (Newtown, CT) and Emily Newhard (Wallingford, CT) guided the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over visiting Western New England University at The Westside Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.

The victory ended an early-season two-game losing streak for the Colonials and they are now 1-2 while the Golden Bears drop to 1-2 on the season.

In the 41st minute, Jossick scored her first goal as a Colonial after she collected a loose ball in front of the goal.  Alexya Alves' (Oceanside, CA) initial shot caromed off WNEU keeper Briana Kubik and onto the waiting boot of Jossick.

Newhard added her first goal of the season, an unassisted marker 9:04 into the second half.

Freshman keeper Jillian Fernandez (Columbia, CT) recorded the clean sheet, her first collegiate shut out.  Fernandez made five saves on the night.

Kubik made 10 saves in the loss as the Colonials rattled off 26 shots, to the Bears' five, on Wednesday.

Western Connecticut travels to University of St. Joseph in West Hartford on Saturday for a 1 pm meeting on the Blue Jays' pitch.
