Farmingdale women's soccer defeats Western, 3-1

Box Score

DANBURY, CT - Freshman forward Taylor Howard (Massapequa Park, NY) scored a pair of goals to help lift visiting Farmingdale State College to a 3-1 victory over Western Connecticut State University at The WAC on Thursday night.

Howard scored the Rams' first goal following a feed from Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, NY) in the 15th minute.

Thompson tallied her first goal of the season midway through the first half and it proved to be all Farmingdale would need.

For good measure, Howard added her team-leading third goal of the season with 5:54 remaining before intermission.  She was set up by Andrea Kiefer (Centereach, NY).

Western, now 2-3, got on the scoreboard in the 59th minute when sophomore Autumn Sorice (Bethel, CT) notcher her first goal as a Colonial.

Sophomore netminder Breanna Blair (Littleton, CO) earned the victory while making six saves for the winners.

Jillian Fernandez (Columbia, CT) suffered the loss despite making five saves for the Colonials.

Western had an advantage on shots (13-10) and corners (6-3) but were unable to find the back of the net.

Western will enjoy the weekend off but get right back into action when it plays host to Purchase College on Monday, September 15.  Game time is slated for 7 pm.
