Box Score FARMINGDALE, NY—A pair freshmen Jessica McCarey and Tianna Hatch paced Buffalo State (1-0-1) to a 1-0 victory over Western Connecticut State (0-2) today at the Farmingdale Classic.
McCarey made six saves for her first collegiate shutout in just her second appearance, and Hatch netted her first goal as a Bengal for the game's only offense.
Hatch's goal on a rebound of a shot that caromed off the post in the 30th minute was the difference in an evenly played first half.
The Bengals took control from there, outshooting Western, 9-4, over the final 45 minutes and kept the Colonials at bay.
Buffalo State finished the game with a 15-9 advantage in shots and a narrow 5-4 margin in corner kicks.
Freshman netminder Jillian Fernandez (Columbia, CT) had a solid game in goal of the Colonials. She made four saves over 90 minutes, but suffered her second straight loss.
Western plays host to Western New England University on Wednesday, September 3. Game time is slated for 6 pm at The Westside Athletic Complex.
