Western Connecticut State University

Kimberley Rybczyk was named Head Women’s Basketball Coach at her alma mater Western Connecticut State University in April of 2002. She will be entering her 22th season at WestConn.

In 2022-2023, Rybczyk captured her 400th collegiate coaching win against York College on December 9, 2022. She is two wins shy of her 300 career win at WestConn.

Since 2008, Rybczyk has garnered Little East Conference Coach of the Year five times.

She currently has an overall record of 386-273 and 278-202 at WestConn.

During the 2017-18 campaign, the Wolves posted an overall record of 11-15 as they transitioned into a new style of fast-paced play. They ended the season leading the nation in four different statistical categories:

Three-point field goals per game with 12.3.
Three-point field goals made with 319.
Three-point field goals attempted with 1,252.
Turnovers forced with 34.96 per game.
They also were number two in the country in steals per game with 18.7, turnover margin of 13.46, and offensive rebounding per game with 25.

Perhaps Coach Rybczyk’s greatest accomplishment as the mentor of the Wolves' program centers around academics. The WestConn women’s basketball team received national recognition following the 2022-2023 season by being named to the WBCA Academic Top 25 Special Mention.

During the 2016-2017 season, the team was also recognized for this honor having placed 9th in the country with a Team GPA of 3.593.

In spring of 2018, the team was recognized at the WestConn athletic department banquet for the highest team GPA award with a 3.32 which was the second honor in a row for the team.

Individually, Jancy Sherwood was named a First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District for the 2017-2018 season.

This marks the fourth time that one of Coach Rybczyk’s teams has been named to the WBCA Top 25 Academic Honor Roll. While at Rensselaer, Rybczyk’s squad achieved this honor twice. Her Southwestern University team earned the honor once.

During her stint at Rensselaer (NY), her squad posted a 23-5 record, won the UCAA championship and appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history during the 2000-01 season. She was named UCAA Coach of the Year twice, WBCA Division III, District 2 Coach of the Year once, BCANY Coach of the Year once, and New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year once.

Rybczyk, a 1988 graduate and a four-year women’s basketball letter-winner, returned to the Danbury, Connecticut area having spent the previous 14 years as assistant coach at several Division I and Division II schools in New England as well as heading up the programs at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for six seasons and Southwestern
University in Georgetown, TX for one. In 1988, Rybczyk was a Division III Third Team All-American at WCSU where she is still the career assist leader with 606 assists. She ranks seventh on the Colonials’ all-time steals list with 199.

In addition, Rybczyk has coached the Adirondack Team in the Empire State Games Open Division (NY) during the summer of 1999 where she led her team to the bronze medal. She also coached in the Nutmeg State Games Open Division (Conn.) from 1991-1994 where her team earned three gold medals in four years.

Rybczyk served for two seasons on the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll Committee from 2004-2006.

A native of Cromwell, Connecticut, Rybczyk was the first female inducted into the Cromwell Athletic Hall of Fame during the spring of 1992.
