David Kunyz enters his first season as a member of the Western Connecticut State University football coaching staff, and will serve as the Colonials’ Defensive Coordinator.
Kunyz comes to Western Connecticut State University after spending the previous two years at NCAA Division II Alderson Broaddus University, in Phillipi, WV, where he served as the Special Teams Coordinator. For the 2015 season, Kunyz took over as the Battler’s Defensive Line Coach after spending the 2014 season as Linebackers Coach. In addition to coaching, he also served as the University’s Strength and Conditioning Coordinator.
Prior to his time at Alderson Broaddus, Kunyz spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons as the Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers coach at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (NCAA D-III), in Buzzards Bay, MA. This was his second stint as a member of the Buccaneers’ coaching staff, as he previously spent the 2009 and 2010 seasons coaching the Defensive Backs and also served as Special Team’s Coordinator in 2010.
Kunyz spent the 2011 season as the Defensive Backs coach at United States Merchant Marine Academy (NCAA D-III), in Kings Point, NY.
He started his coaching career at Plymouth State University (NCAA D-III) in 2007, where he worked with the defensive backs and then switched over to Wide Receivers coach for the 2008 season. During his tenure at Plymouth State, the Panthers were 19-3 and won the 2007 ECAC North Atlantic Championship, and earned an NCAA Division III playoff appearance after winning the New England Football Conference in 2008.
A native of Oceanport, NJ, Kunyz played two seasons at Fairleigh Dickinson University (NCAA D-III), as a Defensive Back, in 2004 and 2005. He then went on to earn a B.S. in Mathematics from Plymouth State University in 2009 and a M.S. in Educational Technology from DeVry University in 2011.
