PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - Junior forward
Shannon Anderson (New Milford, Conn.) scored the game's only goal in the 43rd minute to lead the visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 1-0 win over the St. Joseph's University Golden Eagles in women's soccer action this afternoon at John A. Danzi Stadium. WestConn improved to 2-0-2, its best start since going 14-0 to start the 2021 campaign, having opened the 2026 season with four games in six days. The Wolves will host Rivier next on Tuesday at 7 p.m. St. Joseph's drops to 1-2 with a road match at William Paterson up next on Tuesday.
Anderson had forced St. Joseph's goalkeeper Kristin Vahle to make four saves over the first 42-plus minutes of the first half and had hit the post on a fifth shot before breaking through with 1:11 remaining before the break. Madelyn Dwyer (Poughquag, N.Y.) totaled five shots-on-goal between them in the second hald but Vahle was up to the task and finished with 10 saves. Regan made one more save in the game before yielding to sophomore
Emma Perrotti (Bethel, Conn.) who preserved the shutout with a save on the lone St. Joseph's shot of the game's final 20 minutes. WestConn finished with an 18-to-10 shooting edge although the Golden Eagles earned five corner kicks to four for the Wolves.
