POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - After falling to Clark in five sets on Friday night, the Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball squad dropped both matches of its second day on the road trip in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., falling in five sets, 3-2, to Rivier University, before being swept by Vassar College, 3-0, on Saturday at Kenyon Hall.
Rivier 3, WestConn 2 (25-22, 25-18, 20-25, 23-25, 15-12)
The Wolves battled back from a two-set deficit to force a fifth, but couldn't finish it off against the Raiders. Senior Julia Stoliker (Red Hook, N.Y.) put up a match-high 19 kills to go with 17 digs, and sophomore Hallie Robillard (Middletown, Conn.) added 12 kills. Sophomore Sophia Siruchek (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) chipped in nine floors, while junior Arianna LaPointe (Boynton Beach, Fla.) ran the offense with a match-high 49 assists and 16 digs. Freshman Sadie Casella (Marlboro, N.Y.) paced the service game with a pair of aces.
Vassar 3, WestConn 0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-12)
Later in the day, WestConn couldn't find the same late spark, dropping a straight-set decision to the Brewers. Graduate student Taylor Thompson (West Point, N.Y.) led the Wolves with nine kills and two service aces, while Robillard again factored heavily with eight shots to the floor. Siruchek added five kills, and LaPointe dished out 20 assists to go with a team-high tying effort on the stat sheet. Stoliker chipped in 13 digs defensively despite a quieter match at the net.
Across the two matches, freshman Kayla Proscia (Holbrook, N.Y.), classmate Amarilis Vélez-Gómez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) and senior Ali Rondeau (Carmel, N.Y.) rounded out WestConn's rotation, while sophomore Teagan White (Goffstown, N.H.) contributed in serve receive and defense.
WestConn dropped to 0-4 on the season. They return to the floor when they travel to non-league foe Regis College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
