DANBURY, Conn. - Reigning Wolves Player of the Week Julia Stoliker (Red Hook, N.Y.) paced the Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball squad again Tuesday night, but Trinity College rallied from an opening-set loss to down WestConn 3-1 (18-25, 25-5, 25-16, 25-11) at Stephen Feldman Arena.
WestConn came out hot in the first set, trading points early before Stoliker took over down the stretch. She served two straight aces and added a kill during a stretch that pushed the lead from 13-13 to 16-13, and freshman Taylor Thompson (West Point, N.Y.) closed it out with a service ace, sealing a 25-18 opening-set win for the hosts.
Trinity flipped the match in the second set behind Amy Boller, who served for nine consecutive points — including three aces — to turn a 12-3 Bantam lead into a commanding 21-3 advantage on her way to a lopsided 25-5 set win that completely reversed the match's momentum.
WestConn pushed back in the third set, with freshman setter Kyra Courtemanche (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) sparking a four-point run to deadlock the count at 14-14. But Trinity answered immediately, closing the set on an 11-2 run to win 25-16. Trinity carried the surge into the fourth, opening with a 4-0 run, before cruising to a 25-11 finish.
Wolves rookie Kayla Proscia (Holbrook, N.Y.) finished with six kills and a .313 hitting percentage, the best efficiency mark on the WestConn side, while Thompson added a trio kills to go with her ace. Junior Arianna LaPointe (Boynton Beach, Fla.) ran the offense with 10 assists, and freshman Sadie Casella (Marlboro, N.Y.) — the team's season digs leader — paced the defense with 15 digs. Sophomore Sophia Siruchek (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) added four kills.
Trinity got a match-high 13 kills and five aces from Boller, while Trinity Fore added 12 kills and a team-high six blocks. Maya Pace rounded out the visitor's effort with 22 assists.
The loss dropped WestConn to 3-11 overall, though the Wolves remain 1-0 in Little East Conference play. The Bantams improved to 8-3 overall.
