DANBURY, Conn. — First-year Aime Ruggles (Bronx, N.Y.) makes his debut in the net for the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team with a 4-1 win over the visiting Farmingdale State College Rams on Thursday. The Wolves improved to 1-0-1, while the Rams dropped to 0-1-1 overall.

Juan Gomez Herrera (Brentwood, N.Y.) netted the first goal for the hosts off a shot by Nickolas Santana (New Haven, Conn.) in the 25th minute to put the Wolves up 1-0. Santana had a single defender as he dribbled down the left side of the field before sending it towards the goalkeeper, Vas Dallas, who fell to the ground in an attempt to save it, but Gomez Herrera was there to play the hero.

With less than five minutes remaining in the first half, Brandon Salguero (Norwalk, Conn.) connected for the eventual game-winning goal. Twenty seconds earlier, Esteban Tabares (Lodi, N.J) had his shot doink off the crossbar, allowing Salguero to recover the ball for the Wolves' second goal of the night. In the 58th minute, Tabares earned his dues for the Wolves' third goal off the boot of Lucas Fernandez (Stamford, Conn.) to put the home team up 3-0.

William Guillen scored the lone goal for the Rams in the 78th minute. The Wolves regained their three-goal lead after Rodrigo Lancho (Hartford, Conn.) sent a deep ball from the 30-yard line to a sprinting Chance Campbell (Bartow, Fla.) at the 15-yard line, who ripped a rocket over the goalkeeper's head.

Ruggles made the only save for WestConn across 56 minutes of action, while Dallas denied eight shots by the Wolves.

WestConn remains home for a 5 p.m. non-conference matchup against Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday at the Westside Athletic Complex.
