MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — In the 66th
Brandon Salguero (Norwalk, Conn.) put the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team on the board in the 3-1 road loss to the Wesleyan University Cardinals — who are ranked No. 7 in the region. The Wolves moved to 7-3-3 overall and the Cardinals are now 5-2-1.
The hosts scored twice in the first half and once in the second, with Yousuf Saeed netting two and assisting on a third.
Salguero erased the shutout after
Demani Gordon (Bronx, N.Y.) intercepted a Wesleyan goal kick to regain possession. Several passes through defenders by
Rodrigo Lancho (Hartford, Conn.),
Juan Gomez Herrera (Brentwood, N.Y.) and
Ernesto Barrosa (Madison, Conn.) brought the ball back into the attacking zone as Gomez Herrera sent a deep shot towards the goal near the far sideline. Sam Adiutori came out of the goal to try and deny Gomez Herrera's shot, but a missed header by the goalkeeper allowed Salguero to tip it into the empty net from the left side of the goal.
Makai Smith (Bridgeport, Conn.) and
Aime Ruggles (Bronx, N.Y.) split time in the box for the Wolves for a combined eight saves, while Adiutori sent away a trio.
