DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves were beaten, 7-0, by the visiting SUNY Purchase Panthers in women's tennis action this afternoon at Westside Courts.  WestConn drops to 0-2 and the Panthers improve to 2-0.  The Wolves will open Little East Conference (LEC) play next on Saturday at 1 p.m. against the University of Massachusetts-Boston Beacons.  WestConn freshman Keira Hammond (Carmel, N.Y.) posted her first collegiate victory, teaming with senior Eriickah Tertulien (Norwalk, Conn.) for a hard-earned, 7-6 win at second doubles. Purchase took the doubles point with decisive victories at the top and bottom spots. 

In singles, Wolves freshman Caroline Illescas (Danbury, Conn.) forced a third set tiebreaker at the bottom of the ladder 6 singles after winning 7-5 in the second set, but was edged, 10-8.  At second singles, WestConn sophomore Eilynn Pierre (Queens Village, N.Y.) came back from a 5-2 deficit in the second set and forced a third-set breaker, but ultimately lost, 10-7. 

"We had too many missed opportunities in doubles and need to get better there," said WestConn Head Coach Shawn Stillman. "We need to capitalize on every court. We had a better showing in singles but overall need to increase our intensity."
