FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Sophomore
Julia Valukis (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) had two hits in each game, including a double, a triple, two runs, and an RBI in game one, as the Western Connecticut State University Wolves split a softball doubleheader against the Farmingdale State College Rams this afternoon. WestConn won the first game, 13-5, and lost the second, 5-2. The Wolves, now 5-13, will hit the road against tomorrow when they play two at SUNY Purchase at 3 p.m. The Rams' record moves to 8-10.

Jaycee Filancia (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) started the game off with an HBP, stole second, and scored on an RBI double by junior
Kendall Allen (Naugatuck, Conn.). Valukis drove home Allen with a triple to right field and scored the third run of the first inning on an infield hit by senior
Alexis Resto (Shelton, Conn.). Filancia, walked, stole another base, and scored again on RBI groundout by Allen in the second inning.
Valukis opened the third inning with a double and scored and Filancai, singled, stole her third base, and crossed the plate on another Allen groundout in the fourth. WestConn scored three times in the fifth with two outs. Resto singled with one out and freshman
Giulia Scibilia (Carle Place, N.Y.) drove home the Wolves' seventh run with a base hit. Senior
Francesca Foster (Mystic, Conn.) doibled home Scibilia and Foster scored on an infield hit by Filancia. Farmingdale answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Both teams scored twice in the sixth, as Allen belted a solo homer and Resto hit a sacrifice fly. Filancia and Foster both singled and scored unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning. WestConn senior starter
Olivia Bordenaro (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) tossed four scoreless innings and yielded eight hits and three runs with three strikeouts to improve to 4-3 in the circle. Sophomore
Madison Mandra (Bethpage, N.Y.) gave up two early runs in the sixth but retired the last six batters in a row for the Wolves. Offensively, Filancia and Scibilia had three hits, and Allen, Valukis, Resto and Foster had two apiece. Filancia scored three times and Allen had four RBIs.
Bordenaro added a complete game in the nightcap and held the Rams scoreless for the first three frames before giving up three runs in the fourth and two in sixth. WestConn had baserunners in the first five innings but no runs, before mounting a comeback bid in the seventh. Freshman Lorelai Stancavage (Bristol, Conn.) drove home the first run with a triple and scored on a two-out double by Filancia but Farmingdale's Kiara Kegel finished her seven-hit complete game one batter later. Stancavage and Valukis each had two hits in game two.
