4/20/2026 11:10:00 PM

Box Score DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves dropped a 5-2 decision against the visiting University of Hartford Hawks in men's tennis action this afternoon at Westside Courts.  WestConn falls to 5-11 with its first loss in three matches, while the Hawks improve to 4-14 in its final match of the season.  The Wolves will visit Western New England tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. in their next match.

Sophomores Henry Gsell (Bridgewater, Conn.) and Alex Maldonado (Danbury, Conn.) won at third doubles for the Wolves, 6-4, but Hartford took the doubles point.  WestConn senior Aidan Burke (Wilton, Conn.) got the first home point to make the score, 3-1, with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at the top of the singles ladder.  Wolves sophomore Axel Javier (Danbury, Conn.) added a 6-4, 6-1 win at sixth singles after the team decision had been settled.

"Getting the doubles point in the match is critical," said WestConn Head Coach Shawn Stillman. "It builds positive momentum for our players and takes some pressure off of the singles courts. As we prepare for the playoffs, we need to be better to start the match."
