Box Score DANBURY, Conn. - Sophomores
Jack Buck (New Fairfield, Conn.) and
Jose Zambrano (Danbury, Conn.) won in singles and as a doubles pair to lead the Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 4-3 victory over the visiting Albertus Magnus College Falcons in men's tennis action this afternoon at Westside Courts. The win is the first of the season for the Wolves against six losses while the Falcons drop to 0-3. WestConn will host SUNY Purchase next on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
WestConn made quick work of Albertus Magnus in doubles, winning all three matches by a combined score of 18-6 including a 6-1 triumph by Buck/Zambrano at the No. 2 position. Needing three points to win the match, WestConn got one quickly when sophomore
Axel Javier (Danbury, Conn.) posted a 6-1, 6-1 at fifth singles. Zambrano gave up just a single game to make the score, 3-0, with his win at second singles. Buck clinched the team decision with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at third singles.
"It was great to get a win today," said WestConn Head Coach Shawn Stillman. "The guys have been working hard and the experience of playing close matches will only make them stronger. Hopefully, we can keep this momentum going."
