DANBURY, Conn. - After falling to Trinity College earlier in the week, the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team rebounded in a big way on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves rolled past visiting Little East Conference foe Vermont State University Castleton, 26-4, at the Westside Athletic Complex. Senior attack
Madison Ratchford (Ridge, N.Y.) led the way with seven goals and four assists, while graduate student midfielder
Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) racked up six goals and one helper en route to earning her 300th career point. She became the school's all-time leader in points earlier this season.
The hosts erupted to earn running time in the first quarter as they put together an 11-1 lead. Gracy fired home her 20th marker of the season to complete the hat trick while reaching the plateau, giving the Wolves a 4-0 lead. Ratchford added four goals before Gracy rounded out the first quarter flurry to make it 11-1.Â
Junior
Anneliese Reggio (White Plains, N.Y.) buried her first goal of the season to begin the second quarter. Junior middie
Isabella Pota (East Meadow, N.Y.) tickled the twine with her 31st goal of the year to make it 16-2 at halftime. Â
WestConn did not let up in the second half. RookiesÂ
Hannah Philion (Charlton, Mass.) and
Kylie Traversa (Bethpage, N.Y.)Â each netted their first goals of the campaign in the final stanza as the Wolves cruised to the win. With the victory, WestConn improved to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Spartans sank to 1-4 and 0-2. It marked the eighth consecutive win for WestConn in the series. Castleton has not won at the WAC since the 2015 season.
The Wolves get a week to practice before they return to action on the road. They matchup with conference nemesis Plymouth State University on Saturday at 11 a.m.
