Box Score 2 ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - Sophomore
Axel Javier (Danbury, Conn.) posted a singles victory, as the Western Connecticut State University lost a pair of men's tennis matches this afternoon at Sanlando Park. The Wolves were beaten, 5-2, by the Webster University Gorlocks and, 6-1, by the Edgewood College Eagles. WestConn was forced into the unusual tennis doubleheader due to bad weather both in Florida and around the country where multiple Wolves opponents experienced travel delays. Webster improves to 4-10 and Edgewood ups its season mark to 6-10. WestConn will return North and visit Manhattanville on Thursday, March 26 at 4 p.m.
Javier owned his opponent in the Edgewood match, winning, 6-2, 6-1 at sixth singles to salvage a point in the team decision. WestConn senior
Aidan Burke (Wilton, Conn.) forced a third set tiebreaker at first singles but could not hold on to an early lead and lost the match. Sophomore
Jose Zambrano (Danbury, Conn.) played two tight sets, coming back from a 5-0 hole in the first to get it to, 5-4, but could not get over the top in a 6-4, 6-4 setback. In doubles, Burke/Zambrano had won, 6-2, at the top of the ladder but the Eagles collected the point with two other doubles triumphs.
