ORLANDO, Fla. - The Western Connecticut State University women's tennis squad fell to the University of Wisconsin-Stout, 7-0, during its spring trip on Monday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
A shortage of courts caused the match to begin with singles action rather than doubles play. But the Wolves ran into a red-hot Blue Devils lineup.
Wisconsin-Stout's Molly Garber began the day with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Erickah Tertulien at No. 1 singles. Prajna Hosamane followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Eilynn Pierre at No. 2, while Ashlyn Dellemenn earned a decisive 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ava Ciampi at No. 3.
The Blue Devils continued to roll the rest of the way. Lindsay Leuzinger secured a 6-1, 6-1 win over Aylina Razeq at No. 4, Gretchen Murphy cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kate Robinson at No. 5, and Lexie Stein finished out the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Elsie Sabol at No. 6.
UW-Stout carried that strong play into doubles. Leuzinger and Dellemann eamed a 6-2 victory over Tertulien and Pierre at No. 1 doubles, while Murphy and Megan Kokesh captured a 6-3 win over Razeq and Ciampi at No. 2.
At No. 3 doubles, Allie Adrian and Hosamane notched the team sweep with a 6-1 victory over Sabol and Robinson. With the loss, the Wolves dropped to 3-12 overall. They continue the trip on Wednesday against Crown College. The contest was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was pushed back due to weather.
