WestConn Baseball Drops Pair Against McDaniel

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves dropped both games of a doubleheader, 5-1, and, 11-2, against the McDaniel College Green Terror in Ripken Experience baseball action this afternoon.  WestConn falls to 4-3 and the Green Terror improves to 9-5.  The Wolves will play a third twinbill in three days tomorrow with a two games against Colby-Sawyer beginning at 3 p.m.

Junior RHP Jimmy Muthersbaugh (Bethel, Conn.) was serviceable over his five innings of game one, allowing six hits and three earned runs but the Green Terror tacked on a pair of unearned runs off him in the fifth.  WestConn junior 1B Thomas Keough (Plainville, Conn.) led off the fourth inning with a walk and scored the Wolves run on a wild pitch.  Senior OF Peter Coniglio (New Milford, Conn.) and sophomore Billy Untiet (Prospect, Conn.) had the two WestConn hits and senior Luke Paluska (East Hampton, Conn.) tossed a scoreless sixth inning with two K's for the Wolves.

McDaniel jumped all over the Wolves early in the second game, scoring in each of the first four innings including a six-run third frame.  Trailing, 11-0, the Wolves scored twice in the fifth inning.  Senior Josef Rosa (Fort Lee, N.J.) singled and scored on a wild pitch and sophomore Elliot Kleinman (Nanuet, N.Y.) walked and scored on an RBI groundout by classmate Justin Reo (Plainview, N.Y.).  Reo also doubled in the game, while both senior lefty Zachary Ruta (Preston, Conn.) and Coniglio pitched scoreless innings in relief.
