Tayejon Lynch (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) had 25 points to lead the visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves to an 85-63 victory over the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans in Little East Conference (LEC) men's basketball action this evening at Glenbrook Gymnasium. WestConn, which has won 14 of 15 games and six in a row, improves to 17-5 overall and moves into first place in the LEC with a 10-3 mark against conference teams. The Wolves will visit the Keene State College Owls, who won in Danbury, 63-59, on January 14, next on Valentine's Day in New Hampshire at 3 p.m. Castleton is now 6-15 overall and 1-11 in the leage.
WestConn was efficient offensively, shooting 53.3 percent from the field, 47.8 percent from long range, and 90.9 percent from the foul line. The Wolves outrebounded the Spartans, 29-24, and forced 29 turnovers. Lynch made 10 of 14 shots from the floor and added three rebounds and a pair of steals. Nick Boyce (Jamaica, N.Y.) collected nine points, three rebounds, three assists, and six steals for WestConn. Will Radcliff scored 20 points and nine rebounds and Ben Seiler had 19 points for Castleton.
WestConn went on an 8-0 run to turn a 15-all tie into a 23-15 lead with 7:07 left in the first half. Lynch scored the last four of the eight points and then drilled back-to-back three-pointers moments later to push the Wolves' lead to double digits at 29-19. Jahlyl Morgan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), increased WestConn's advantage to 46-25 with 13 seconds left before halftime. The visitors led by 30 points on three different occasions in the second half.
