BOSTON, Mass. —
Victor-Antoine Fortier (Sherbrooke, Quebec) and
Scott McNulty (Williamstown, N.J.) each record a pair of points, but the Western Connecticut State University men's ice hockey team fell, 7-4, in its final game of the inaugural season at UMass Boston on Saturday. The Wolves moved to 2-23-0 overall and 1-17-0 in the Little East Conference, while the Beacons improved to 14-9-2 and 9-7-2. Fortier scored and added an assist, while McNulty recorded a pair of helpers.
The hosts scored two tallies in the first period before
Drew Coady (Braintree, Mass.) capitalized on the shorthanded Beacons to cut the deficit to one at 4:17 in the second period. Three minutes later, UMass Boston scored for the two-goal edge, but this time it was
Tyler Gobel (Lindon, N.J.) who narrowed the gap to one off the assists from Fortier and McNulty for WestConn's second powerplay goal.Â
UMass scored three straight, including a powerplay goal in the second. With less than two minutes remaining in the second stanza, Fortier's goal halted the opponent's scoring stretch for another powerplay goal by the Wolves.
Erik Danilchev (Rochester, Mich.) scored the final tally for the visitors at 15:05 in the third.
Liam Lane (Castle Rock, Colo.) finished the season with 499 saves in his first year with the Wolves.
