PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior forward
Nick Boyce (Jamaica, N.Y.) buried a game-high 19 points while shooting a scorching 75 percent from the floor, guiding the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team to an 83-70 victory at Rhode Island College in a Little East Conference matchup at the Murray Center on Wednesday night.
Junior guard
Tayejon Lynch (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) and rookie guard
Avery Taitt-Christina (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) chipped in with 17 and 14 points, respectively. Taitt-Christina was also red-hot, knocking down six-of-nine attempts.
The Wolves opened the contest with the first eight points and would not look back. Lynch took a feed from Boyce and drilled a three-pointer to round out the run. The barrage continued as the visitors took a 44-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.
It didn't get any easier for the hosts in the second stanza. Taitt-Christina scurried down the lane for a layup to give WestConn its largest lead of the contest with 11:44 left to play, setting the count at 62-41. They would cruise the rest of the way.
With the win, the Wolves moved to 18-6 overall and 11-4 in league play, while the Anchormen sank to 11-13 and 7-8. WestConn returns to the hardwood for its regular season finale on Saturday at 3 p.m. when they host UMass Dartmouth in yet another league battle. The LEC Championship Tournament begins on Tuesday.
