KEENE, N.H. - Despite a game-high 30 points from senior forward
Sara Macary (Naugatuck, Conn.), the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team fell at Keene State, 98-70, in a Little East Conference matchup at Spaulding Gym on Saturday afternoon. Classmate forward
Leana Heitmann (E. Syracuse, N.Y.) chipped in with 11 points.
Brynn Rautiola matched Macary's high with 30 of her own to pace the Owls. Ruby Dasaro followed her effort up with 20 off the bench.
The difference maker in the contest came from beyond-the-arc. The hosts canned 10-of-30 shots from three-point territory while the Wolves went just 0-for-5. The visitors also coughed the ball up 33 times which translated to 46 points off turnovers. Keene State finished with just 17 turnovers.
The Owls opened up the game with a run and would eventually move ahead, 22-10, when Rautiola stole the ball and raced in for a layup. She later widened the gap to 33 when she sank a pair of attempts from the free throw line.
The Wolves would not recover as the Owls cruised the rest of the way. With the loss, WestConn dropped to 9-14 overall and 4-10 in league play while Keene St. improved to 16-7 and 10-4. WestConn returns to action for a road contest at RIC on Wednesday before wrapping up the regular season slate at home against UMass Dartmouth on Saturday.
