WestConn Field Hockey Suffers Gut-Wrenching Loss Against Eastern Connecticut

DANBURY, Conn. - Western Connecticut State University junior Jaelyn Moulton (Stafford Springs, Conn.) scored 6:51 into the game, but the Wolves were held off the board for nearly 65 minutes after that in a 2-1 overtime loss to the visiting Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors in Little East Conference (LEC) field hockey action this evening at Westside Stadium.  WestConn drops to 9-8 overall and 2-3 in the LEC with its first loss in five games.  Eastern Connecticut improves to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the league.  The Wolves will host conference rival Southern Maine next on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the final home game of the regular season.

Moulton took the first four shots-on-goal in the contest, scoring on the fourth with a redirect of a shot from the top of the circle by senior midfielder Alyssa Montalvo (Holbrook, N.Y.).  The WestConn defense was stingy early, allowing just two shots and only on target in the opening quarter that was saved by Wolves junior goalkeeper Jaden Kilmer (East Islip, N.Y.).  Both defenses were up to the task in the second frame, as the teams managed just a single shot apiece.

Moulton also took the lone Wolves shot-on-goal in the third quarter, as she accounted for all of the home team's six shots-on-goal in regulation.  Eastern Connecticut had an early shot by Grace Barlage denied on a defensive save by senior defender Kaitlyn Biase (Nesconset, N.Y.) and Kilmer stopped another Barlage bid with three minutes left in the third stanza. The Warriors tied the game 1:57 into the fourth quarter on a goal by Ada Ellis who converted on a centering pass from the right wing by Jenna Boardman. Kilmer made a save against Eastern Connecticut's Audrey Molin with 6:56 left in the fourth, while WestConn sophomore midfielder Ellenoire Schoen (Newtown, Conn.) and Montalvo both had shots blocked in the final three minutes of regulation.  In the first scoreless overtime, both Kilmer and Eastern Connecticut goalie Kate Paradise made a pair of saves but Molin beat Kilmer on a breakaway 1:57 into the second exra session.
