PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior forward
Marcel Henry (Yonkers, N.Y.) notched game-highs of 27 points and seven boards to guide the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball squad to a 78-66 victory on the road at Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference contest on Saturday afternoon. Junior guard
Tayejon Lynch (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) added 18 points to go along with game-highs of seven assists and four steals.
It marked the fourth straight win for the Wolves who improved to 15-5 overall and 8-3 in league play, while the Panthers dropped to 6-13 and 2-8. The blistering WestConn shooting continued as they sank 57 percent of their attempts from the floor while the hosts managed to connect at just a 42 percent clip.
Yansel Reyes paced the Panthers with 21 points while Evan Berkeley came off the bench to add 17 which included four shots from beyond-the-arc. WestConn took an early eight point lead and would not look back when Lynch converted a fast break layup off a pretty steal and feed from senior forward
Nick Boyce (Jamaica, N.Y.). They widened the gap to 10 when junior guard
Elijah Jean-Guillaume (New Haven, Conn.) drilled a three-pointer before the hosts quickly countered with a trifecta of their own, setting the halftime score at 39-32.
WestConn moved ahead by 15 early in the second half before Plymouth trimmed it to just five with 5:33 to go when Berkeley scurried in for a runner. But the Wolves displayed their poise and were able to hold off the surge on their way to the 12-point victory.
The Wolves will look to keep things moving in a positive direction when they host UMass Boston in yet another LEC tilt that begins on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
