DANBURY, Conn. - After a pair of losses to start the season, the Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball squad evened its record at 2-2 overall following a pair of victories over visiting non-conference opponents Clark University, 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-12) and Rivier University, 3-2 (18-25, 25-15, 25-14, 19-25, 15-11) in a tri-match on Saturday afternoon at Feldman Arena. Senior setter
Maggie Ferguson (Southbury, Conn.) dished out a match-high 25 assists in the win over the Cougars before junior outside hitter
Julia Stoliker (Red Hook, N.Y.) tallied match-highs of 17 kills and seven service aces in the victory over the Raiders.
The hosts pulled away early against Clark and would not look back to pierce the win column. Newcomer
Hallie Robillard (Middletown, Conn.) chipped win with nine kills while senior libero
Jersey Jones (Middletown, N.Y.) contributed a match-high of four service aces. Senior middle hitter
Delia Clouden (Newtown, Conn.) added six kills without an error.
The Raiders downed the Cougars in the neutral contest before squaring up against the Wolves to round out the day. Rivier jumped out to an early lead but WestConn came roaring back with dominating second and third set wins. The Raiders regained their composure to force a fifth set. However, the Wolves would not let this one slip away as they notched the finale, 15-11. Jones added a match-high 26 digs while Ferguson handed out yet another match-high with 41 helpers.
WestConn will look to continue building on the positive momentum when they host non-league foe New Paltz on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
