DANBURY, Conn. — Sophomore
Jaden Kilmer (East Islip, N.Y.) stood tall as the Western Connecticut State University field hockey team shut out the visiting Framingham State University Rams, 4-0, at Westside Stadium on Saturday. The Wolves improved to 2-1 on the season, while the visitors fell to 1-2 overall.
Reagan Schoen (Newtown, Conn.) registered four points for WestConn with a pair of assists and a goal. The game was stopped with 5:42 left in the final quarter due to lightning, but declared a complete game by the referees.
Jaelyn Moulton (Stafford Springs, Conn.) opened up the scoring for the hosts off the quick pass from Schoen five minutes into the first quarter to put the Wolves up, 1-0. WestConn maintained the one-score lead until Schoen connected with the net eight minutes into the third period.
Miah Ruiz (New Fairfield, Conn.) fed the senior after
Alyssa Montalvo (Holbrook, N.Y.) inserted the ball on a Wolves penalty corner attempt.
A little over two minutes later,
Vanesa Dominguez (Danbury, Conn.) padded the home team's lead by one for an unassisted tally, and the senior's first career goal, at 10:20 in the third. Four minutes into the fourth,
McKinley Soto (Holtsville, N.Y.) extended the Wolves off yet another Schoen pass to put WestConn up, 4-0.
The Rams only had two opportunities to score but Kilmer denied both attempts by the visitors. Framingham State had three goalkeepers in the cage as Rowan Whittaker saved 14 shots and Kaitlyn Tello stopped four.
WestConn travels to Manhattanville University on September 9 for a 7 p.m. match-up.
