Denton Guy-Williams (Columbia, Md.) netted his first career goal in the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team's 2-0 triumph over the visiting Western New England University Golden Bears at Westside Stadium on Wednesday. The Wolves improved to 3-4-2 on the season, while the Golden Bears dropped to 2-5-0. WestConn extended its unbeaten streak to three games and handed WNEU its fourth shutout of the season.
Maximus Vigo (Canton, Mich.) stole a deflected cross by WNEU near midfield before sending it to
Nickolas Santana (New Haven, Conn.) in the Golden Bears' territory. The sophomore made a few stutter steps through defenders before feeding
Juan Gomez Herrera (Brentwood, N.Y.) for the eventual game-winning goal for the Wolves' first goal of the game at the 29-minute mark.
Guy-Williams tabbed the insurance goal for WestConn in the 78th minute. Vigo snatched another off-target pass by the Golden Bears, followed by a quick pass to Jeffery Norales (Bronx, N.Y.) for the feed to Guy-Williams.
WestConn outshot WNEU 17-8 and edged the visitors in corner kick attempts 6-5.
Zachary Benson (Milford, Conn.) and
Makai Smith (Bridgeport, Conn.) split time in the cage for the Wolves and each made a pair of saves. Golden Bears goalkeeper Miles Lanier made seven stops. Wolves' backs
Enzo LaGrassa-Gillet (Miami Beach, Fla.) and
Gabriel Lopes (Danbury, Conn.) defended the scoring zone well with four takeaways each.
