DANBURY, Conn. —
Eilynn Pierre (Queens Village, N.Y.) went 2-0 but the Western Connecticut State University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 match to Bard College on Monday. The Wolves fell to 0-3 on the season, while Bard improved to 1-1.
First-years Pierre and
Kate Robinson (Brookfield, Conn.) captured No. 3 Doubles, 6-3, and their first collegiate victories, but the Wolves dropped the Doubles point. At No. 2 Doubles,
Ava Ciampi (Wolcott, Conn.) and
Aylina Razeq (Danbury, Conn.) gained a 5-3 lead in the set, only to drop three-straight games. The duo then won the next game to force a tiebreaker, however they lost 7-1 in the breaker.
In singles, after three unsuccessful match point attempts, Pierre at No. 4 Singles ended the evening by earning her second victory of the day 6-3, 7-6 (4). It was not enough though as Westconn lost the remaining singles courts.
WestConn remains at home for a home match against Farmingdale State on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Westside Tennis Courts.
"After just three matches, our forward progress is showing," WestConn's women's tennis head coach Shawn Stillman said. "Points are longer, mistakes are less, footwear is better, etc. We need to continue this path. It was an exciting victory for Kate and Lynn at doubles and a great singles win for Lynn."
