Five WestConn Women's Tennis Players Named ITA Scholar Athletes

WestConn's Charbonneau And Rebelo Receive CSC Academic All-District Honors

DANBURY, Conn.. — Western Connecticut State University seniors Sophie Charbonneau (Oakville, Conn.) and Diana Rebelo (Naugatuck, Conn, Conn.) were each named to the 2025 CSC Division III Academic All-District Women's Tennis Team.  The pair joined classmates Sarah Cipriano (Watertown, Conn.) and Melanie Grasso (New Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Ava Ciampi (Wolcott, Conn.) as Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) 2024-25 Division III Scholar Athletes. 

The four seniors and junior Aylina Razeq (Danbury, Conn.) graced the 2024 Little East Conference (LEC) Fall All-Academic Team and all six Wolves, along with senior Brooke Stillman (Brookfield, Conn.) and freshman Photini Bass (New Milford, Conn.) were also named to the 2024-25 Little East Conference Fall/Spring Academic Honor Rolls.  WestConn, coached by Shawn Stillman (11th Season), finished the 2024 fall slate with a 5-9 overall record and in seventh place in the Little East with a 2-6 conference mark.  The Wolves played five matches in the spring without its full roster and finished the 2024-25 season at 5-14 overall.

The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Women's Tennis Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.  Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot.

In 2025, 1,115 Division III men's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, having compiled at least a 3.50 g.p.a. in the 2024-25 academic year. .  To be selected to the LEC Winter All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be in good standing in their sport with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30.  The LEC announced a total of 2,276 student-athletes to the LEC Academic Honor Roll in recognition of their academic performance in the fall 2024 semester. To be named the LEC Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a semester GPA of 3.00 or better and have been an active member of the team at the conclusion of the term.

Charbonneau, who repeats on the CSC Academic All-District Team, led the Wolves in singles wins and singles winning percentage with an 8-7 mark in 2024-25, playing predominantly at No. 3 and No. 4 in the lineup.  She also topped WestConn in doubles wins with a 7-7 record, including a 4-5 mark with Cipriano at second doubles during the fall campaign.  A graduate of Watertown High School, Charbonneau graduated from WestConn this month with a degree in elementary education.  Rebelo posted a 7-11 record at the second spot on the singles ladder and was 5-13 while playing almost exclusively at the top of the doubles lineup. A graduate of Naugatuck High School, Rebelo graduated this month from WestConn with a degree in nursing.
