RUTLAND, Vt. - The visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves ended the 2025 regular season with a 7-2 victory over the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans in Little East Conference (LEC) men's tennis action indoors this afternoon at Vermont Sport & Fitness. WestConn closes the year at 7-2 overall and 3-3 in the LEC, while the Spartans finish up at 3-9 overall and 0-6 in the league.
WestConn swept doubles play with the fastest and most dominant win posted by senior
Caleb Harris (Guilford, Conn.) and
Jose Zambrano (Danbury, Conn.), 8-2, at the bottom of the ladder. In singles, senior
Kevin Tenesaca (Danbury, Conn.) won convincingly at No. 1 and junior
Aidan Burke (Wilton, Conn.) did the same No. 2 to clinch the overall win for WestConn.
Harris won at No.4 and freshman
Bhavya Rana (Danbury, Conn.) won at No. 6 to round out the additional victories. Senior
Nicholas Peschier (Bridgeport, Conn.) came back to force a third set in his match and rallied from a 5-0 deficit in the tiebreaker to earn two match points but was unable to convert them and eventually fell, 12-10
"It is always good to end our regular season with a win," said WestConn Head Coach Shawn Stillman. "It's amazing how fast the season goes. Now we turn our focus to the playoffs next week and see how well we can perform. These guys have been working hard."
