DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves led until the 4-minute mark of the third quarter, but were outscored, 35-10, over the last 22 minutes of the game in a 57-40 setback against the visiting Trinity College Bantams in women's basketball action this afternoon at Feldman Arena. Cameron Froehlich (Brookfield, Conn.) paced the home team in scoring with nine points and Melissa Whitmore had a game-high 15 points for Trinity.
WestConn trailed, 11-2, early but scored the last 11 points of the first quarter including four by Froehlich and the last by classmate
Fatmata Barrie (Staten Island, N.Y.) who gave the Wolves a 13-11 lead on a bucket inside with four seconds on the clock. WestConn controlled play the second frame, outscoring Trinity, 11-7, to lead, 24-18 at the break. The WestConn defense held Trinity to two field goals in 18 attempts in the second quarter, but made just three of thier own shots in 17 tries.

Deona Garcia (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) made three-pointers early in the third quarter to push the Wolves' lead to 30-22 with 6:44 remaining before the final break. Marlo Simms scored three buckets in a row and Melissa Whitmore hit a trey to key a 13-0 run for the visitors, however, before Froehlich scored on a drive to make the score, 35-32, in the visitors favor with 2:24 lef tin the third. Niyama Adadevoh (Amherst, Mass.) scored on a layup in the final minute but the Bantams led, 40-36, heading into the fourth quarter.

Sara Macary (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Garcia registered the lone WestConn field goals of the final stanza. Macary finished with eight points and seven rebounds, while Heitmann collected six points, 14 boards, and three assists, and Barrie added five points and six rebounds. Simms notched 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds and senior guard Maya Carnes scored 10 points for Trinity.
