WestConn Women's Soccer Closes Regular Season With Win At Fitchburg State

FITCHBURG, Mass. - The visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 31 minutes of play and held on for a 3-2 win over the Fitchburg State University Falcons in women's soccer action this evening at Elliott Field.  WestConn closes the regular season with an 11-7-2 record and snaps a two-game losing streak, while the Falcons fall to 2-12-3.  The Wolves will open Little East Conference (LEC) Championshi Tournament play on Saturday.

WestConn's offense came out strong, firing off to early shots before sophomore Shannon Anderson (New Milford, Conn.) placed the ball into the upper left corner of Fitchburg's net in the fourth minute.  The Wolves doubled their advantage two minutes later when senior Hannah Blacher (Allendale, N.J.) converted a penalty kick for her sixth score of the campaign. The visitors upped the margin at 31:00 when freshman Morgan Marcuss (Meriden, Conn.) headed a loose ball into the left side of the net for her third goal on the year for the 3-0 edge going into the break.

Following the break, Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 3-1 in the 64th minute as junior Noelle Kennedy settled a feed from senior Adrianna Westcott and deposited a shot inside the far post.  The Falcons answered again with just under six minutes remaining in the contest with senior Sophia Moore firing a free kick into the upper left.  WestConn freshman goalie Emma Perrotti (Bethel, Conn.) made a save against Kennedy in the 87th minute to preserve the win.  WestConn finished with a 29-14 advantage in shots and two Fitchburg State goalies combined for 11 saves.  Junior goalkeeper Gracey Regan (Monroe, N.J.) made three saves for the Wolves in 70 minutes to earn the win.
