NEW HAVEN, Conn. — In a road match, all six Wolves posted a 2-0 record as the Western Connecticut State University women's tennis team swept nearby Albertus Magnus College, 7-0, on Thursday. WestConn has won in back-to-back matches and improved to 2-7 on the season, while the Falcons dropped to 0-7.
The Wolves swept in partner action with three straight wins to notch the first point of the match.
Eilynn Pierre (Queens Village, N.Y.) and
Aylina Razeq (Danbury, Conn.) nabbed the third and fourth wins for the eventual match victory. Pierre battled through a 6-4 first-set triumph at number four singles before securing the win in the second set, 6-2. Razeq also fought hard for the Wolves with a tight 6-4, 6-3 win at number 4 singles.
Elsie Sabol (Pleasantville, N.Y.) secured her first doubles win with partner Razeq at No. 3, and her first singles win (6-0, 6-1) at No. 6 Singles. At No. 1 Singles,
Erickah Tertulien (Norwalk, Conn.) dominated for her first solo victory in a 6-1, 6-3 win.Â
Kate Robinson (Brookfield, Conn.) and
Ava Ciampi (Wolcott, Conn.) also won in doubles and singles action to aid in the shutout over Albertus.
WestConn returns to home for Little East Conference action on Saturday against Vermont State University Castleton at 1 p.m. on the Westside Tennis Courts.
"Good job to the ladies today with getting the win," head women's tennis coach Shawn Stillman said. "Its been three matches in three days, and we finished strong. Looking forward to our match up on Saturday versus Castleton to better gauge our improvement."
