WestConn Football Collects Numerous Post-Season Honors

Ferguson, Giller, And Grimes Grace All-Region And All-ECAC, Eleven Wolves Make All-MASCAC

DANBURY, Conn. –  Western Connecticut State University senior WR Julian Ferguson (Enfield, Conn.) was named to the 2024 D3Football.com All-Region 1 Second Team, while joining Wolves senior QB John Giller (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) on the ECAC Division III All-Star First Team and senior teammate CB Tyon Grimes (Hempstead, N.Y.) on the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) 2024 All-Conference First Team.  WestConn seniors OT Patrick Adams (Seldon, N.Y), Mileeq Green (Trumbull, Conn.), Kamryn Holmes (Branford, Conn), Kile Jackson (Danbury, Conn.), Mason Phuong (Danbury, Conn), Anthony Weidtman (Nesconset N.Y.), junior Justin Ingebrigtsen (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), and sophomores Dae'Shawn Allen (White Plains, N.Y) and Serge Lagardere (Stamford, Conn) graced the All-MASCAC Second Team. WestConn, coached by Joe Loth (9th Season), finished the 2024 season with an 9-2 overall record and second in the MASCAC with an 8-1 mark against league opponents.  The Wolves hosted Alfred in the ECAC Asa. S Bushnell Bowl Game on November 23 and won the Bushnell Bowl title, 45-14, against the Saxons to close out the year.

Ferguson, who upgrades from the D3Football.com All-Region Third Team in 2023 and makes his third consecutive appearance on the All-MASCAC First Team, finished second in the MASCAC with 977 receiving yards on 58 catches (3rd in MASCAC) and 12 receiving touchdowns (2nd in MASCAC) in 11 games this fall. He ended his career as WestConn's all-time leader in touchdown receptions with 38 in four seasons with the Wolves.  An alum of Capital Prep High School, Ferguson is majoring in business management at WestConn.

Giller completed 145 passes in 209 attempts for 2,015 yards (led MASCAC per game) and 30 touchdowns (16th in nation) with just three interceptions and a MASCAC-best 194.9 efficiency rating (5th in nation) in 11 games and eight starts in 2024.  He led the MASCAC in completion percentage at 69.4 (14th in nation) and yards per attempts at 9.64 (14th in nation) and also ran the ball 54 times for 349 yards and eight touchdowns.  Jones was named as the MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week twice this fall, the New England Football Writers Division II/III Gold Helmer Player of the Week once and was the MVP of the ECAC Bushnell Bowl.  A graduate of Massapequa High School, Giller is majoring in business management at WestConn. 

Grimes, who repeats on the All-MASCAC First Team recorded 28 tackles (17 solo), a tackle for loss, an interception, and six pass breakups in 11 games as a starting cornerback this fall. Grimes is a graduate of Roosevelt High School.

Adams, a team captain who was the MASCAC Offensive Lineman of the Year and an All-MASCAC First Team selection in 2023, allowed WestConn to be a dominant rushing team this fall with 174.8 rushing yards per game, 6.1 rushing yards per carry, and 36 rushing touchdowns in 2024.  A starter in all 11 games this autumn at offensive tackle, Adams also anchored the Wolves' offensive line that allowed just five sacks the entire year.  A graduate of Comsewogue High School, Adams is a MASCAC All-Academic Team honoree as a history major at WestConn.

Green recorded 42 tackles (24 solo), two tackles for loss, a team-high three interceptions, and four pass breakups in 11 games as a starting defensive back this fall. He also blocked two kicks on special teams and returned his interception 32 yards for a touchdown.  A graduate of Trumbull High School, Green is majoring in business at WestConn.

Holmes led WestConn in all rushing categories with 130 carries for 877 yards (2nd in MASCAC), a MASCAC-best 6.8 rushing yards per carry (13th in nation), and 13 rushing touchdowns (2nd in MASCAC), and also caught eight passes for 50 yards as the Wolves' starting running back in all 11 games this fall.  A graduate of Branford High School, Holmes is majoring in health promotion studies at WestConn.

Jackson, who repeats on the All-MASCAC Second Team, registered 29 tackles (16 solo), a team-high nine tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks while starting all 11 games at defensive end for WestConn in 2024.  A graduate of Danbury High School, Jackson is majoring in business management at WestConn.

Phuong helped WestConn to be a dominant rushing team this fall with 174.8 rushing yards per game, 6.1 rushing yards per carry, and 36 rushing touchdowns in 2024.  A starter in all 11 this autumn at offensive guard, Phuong was a key member of the Wolves' offensive line that allowed just five sacks the entire year.  A graduate of Danbury High School, Phuong is a perennial MASCAC All-Academic Team honoree at WestConn.

Weidtman, also an All-MASCAC Second Team selection in 2022, made six of eight field goal tries, with a long of 33 yards and added 61 PAT's in 71 attempts for 79 total points (4th in MASCAC) as WestConn's starting placekicker in 2024. He also averaged 59.6 yards with 35 touchbacks on 74 kickoffs and punted 12 times for an average of 40.8 yards per attempt this fall.  He closes his career as the all-time leading scorer in Wolves football history with 222 points in four seasons.  A graduate of Smithtown East High School, Weidtman is majoring in allied health at WestConn.

Ingebrigtsen registered 46 tackles (26 solo), 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, an  interception, and a blocked kick while starting all 11 games at linebacker for WestConn in 2024.  A graduate of Oyster Bay High School, Ingebrigtsen is majoring in business at WestConn.

Allen, the 2023 MASCAC Offensive Rookie of the Year who repeats on the All-MASCAC Second Team this autumn, had a team-high 78 catches (2nd in MASCAC, 19th in nation) for 972 yards (3rd in MASCAC) and a team-best 14 receiving touchdowns (2nd in MASCAC) while starting all 11 games at wide receiver for the Wolves in 2024.  Allen also rushed for 25 yards and returned three kickoffs for 61 yards to finish the year with a team-high 1,058 all-purpose yards (4th in MASCAC).  Allen is a graduate of Archbishop Stepinac High School and is majoring in business at WestConn.

Lagardere graces the All-MASCAC Second Team as a return specialist this fall, having averaged 32.6 yards per attempt on 11 kickoff returns and a MASCAC-best 15.4 yards (8th in nation) per try on 18 punt returns in 2024.  Lagardere returned one kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown and also caught 12 passes for 101 yards as a wide receiver for the Wolves this season.  A graduate of Archbishop Stepinac High School in New York, Lagardere is majoring in business at WestConn.
