DANBURY, Conn. - Senior forward
Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.) tallied two goals and one assist to lead the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team to a 3-0 shutout victory over visiting Keene State College in the Little East Conference opener for both squads on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolves wasted little time before getting on the board. Senior forward
Adriana Alfano (New Milford, Conn.) took a short cross inside the box from Imetovski on a rush up field and chipped the ball into the open side of the twine less than five minutes into the contest. The Wolves continued to apply pressure in the first half. However, junior netminder Riley Andriski (Newmarket, N.H.) kept the Owls in the game with some stellar stops. She would take the loss and finish with five saves.
The hosts stretched the advantage to 2-0 in the 54th minute when Imetovski took a pass and raced past a pair of defenders into the box. She scurried toward the right post and then unleashed a rocket against the grain that snuck just inside the left iron.
Shortly thereafter, she buried her team-leading sixth goal of the season, tickling the twine with less than four minutes remaining. The Wolves controlled the tempo and finished ahead in shots, 20-7, and corner kicks, 12-2.
With the win, WestConn improved to 6-2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play while the Owls plummeted to 3-4-1 and 0-1. The Wolves will seek to extend the win streak to four when they host non-league opponent Wesleyan University on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
