Three WestConn Volleyball Players Receive Little East Conference Post-Season Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Western Connecticut State University graduate student Olivia Monteleone (Cold Spring, N.Y.) and senior Helen Megson (Lebanon, Conn.) were each named to the 2024 Little East Conference (LEC) All-Conference Volleyball Second Team.  Wolves senior Ashlyn Zematis (Barkhamsted, Conn.) represents WestConn on the LEC Volleyball Sportsmanship Team.

The Wolves, coached Don Ferguson (12th season) finished the 2024 campaign with a 16-14 overall record and finished tied with Eastern Connecticut for fourth place in the LEC  with a 4-4 mark against league teams. The Wolves qualified for the LEC Championship Tournament, defeating Eastern Connecticut, 3-1, in the opening round before falling, 3-0, at Plymouth State in the semifinals. 

Megson notched a team-high 311 kills (6th in LEC) with a .170 hitting percentage, a team-high 43 aces, 166 digs and 41 blocks while playing in 29 matches and 105 sets at outside hitter for the Wolves this fall. She was named the LEC Offensive Player of the Week once this fall.  A graduate of Lyman Memorial High School, Megson is an LEC All-Academic Team and Academic Honor Roll member as a social work major at WestConn.

Monteleone, who repeats on the All-LEC Second Team, registered of 800 assists (1st in LEC, 9.64 per set) and 36 service aces while adding 61 kills and 252 digs in in 24 matches and 83 sets for the Wolves this fall. She was named the LEC Offensive Player of the Week once in 2024.  A graduate of Haldane High School, Monteleone is majoring in meteorology at WestConn.

Zematis had 23 kills for a .111 hitting percentage and 15 digs while appearing in 44 matches and 64 sets as a right-side hitter for the Wolves in 2024.  The LEC Volleyball Sportsmanship Award winner from each team is chosen by the individual coach of each team for her intangible contribution to the team's success both on and off the court and for the example she set as a student-athlete.  A graduate of Northwestern #7 High School, Zematis has been an LEC All-Academic Team and LEC Academic Honor Roll member as a justice and law administration major at WestConn.
