PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Western Connecticut State University's women's soccer team ended in a draw in a head-to-head Little East Conference (LEC) match-up at Rhode Island College, 2-2, on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium. Senior Kaylee Tackson, (Thompson, Conn.) and sophomore Morgan Fontaine (Killingworth, Conn.) scored the goals for the Wolves, with assists from senior Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.) and junior Sophia Onek (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.).
The Wolves earned themselves more chances with 17-16 advantage in shots (11-7 shots on goal). Fontaine led the Wolves with a trio of attempts on goal. The Wolves finished ahead in corners, 6-2.
Rhode Island College responded to the Wolves' goals by scoring some of their own. Tying in the first half than knotting the count once again in the second. Marissa Ruzzano and Tayla Salome scored the goals for RIC.
With the draw, the Wolves wrapped up the regular season slate at 9-5-5 overall and 4-1-3 in league play while the Anchorwomen dropped to 6-8-4 and 1-4-3. WestConn returns to action as the No. 3 seed when they host visiting No. 6 seed Plymouth State University in the LEC Postseason Championship Tournament quarterfinal round on Tuesday at 6 p.m. They will look to avenge a 2-1 loss suffered at the Panthers' home field earlier this season. No. 4 Eastern Connecticut hosts No. 5 Vermont State University Castleton in the other quarterfinal contest. Second-seeded UMass Boston earned a bye and will host either WestConn or Plymouth on Thursday in the semifinal round. Southern Maine earned the top seed and will host the other semifinal game.
