WestConn freshman goalkeeper
Gracie Bomboy (Bainbridge, N.Y.) was on fire early, making seven saves in the first quarter including two on Southern Maine penalty strokes. After Bomboy made four more stops early in the second frame, Wolves junior
Reagan Schoen (Newtown, Conn.) scored the first goal of the contest with 8:09 left in the first half when she took the ball from the middle of the field to deep on the right wing before threading the ball through traffic and into the net. Southern Maine's Norie Tibbetts answered quickly with the first of her three goals, but the Wolves took the lead back on a one-timer by sophomore Kaityn Biase (Nesconset, N.Y.) off a tipped pass by classmate
Cassidy Nordmann (Bethel, Conn.) with 1:25 left before intermission.
Sage Drinkwater assisted on two goals and scored a third over a nine-minute stretch to put the visitors ahead, 4-2, early in the fourth quarter. Brooke Carson tied the game 4:52 into the third frame and Tibbetts put the Huskie ahead for good off a long pass by Drinkwater just 49 seconds later. Schoen took three shots and freshman
Jaelyn Moulton (Stafford Springs, Conn.) got off a hard shot that was blocked by the Husky defense, but no Wolves shots in the second half were on target. Bomboy finished with 20 saves and Southern Maine goalie Eleanor Folsom made all four of her stops in the first half.
