Ian Mounts (Middletown, Conn.) scored in the first half before rookie forward
Chance Campbell (Bartow, Fla.) tallied the game-winner in the second to guide the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team to its fourth straight win as they edged host non-conference foe Trinity College, 2-1, on Wednesday night.
With the victory, the Wolves improved to 7-1-2 overall while the Bantams fell to 1-4-2. The visitors outshot the hosts by a 20-11 count, while also holding the lead in corner kick attempts, 4-2.Â
Trinity drew first blood as Nick Bellak found the back of the net less than 18 minutes into the contest. However, Mounts notched the equalizer shortly before halftime on an unassisted tally for his first goal of the season.
Campbell followed it up with the would-be game-winner in the 54th minute, unassisted and good for his third goal of the season. He ranks second on the team in markers right behind reigning Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week,
Kadin Talho, who leads the squad with eight. Wolves sophomore goalkeeper
Zachary Benson (Milford, Conn.) returned to action and turned aside four shots, while junior netminderÂ
Matthew Silva (Danbury, Conn.) added a pair as they each played a half. Bernardo Simoes stopped nine shots for the Bantams.Â
WestConn will seek to stretch the win streak to five when they travel to Little East Conference adversary Plymouth State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
