NAPLES, Fla. - The Western Connecticut State University softball team defeated Rutgers-Newark, 3-0, in the early-morning opener before closing out its southern trip with a 5-0 loss to Emerson College at North Collier Sports Complex on Friday morning.

In the lowest combined scoring of the week,
Amber Roggendorf drove in all three runs for the Wolves with a one-run double in the first inning and a two-run single in the fifth inning. She and
Rachael Ushka went 2-for-3 against the Scarlet Raiders.
Freshman second baseman
Benni Tucci went 3-for-4 and scored a run for the winners. On the week, she batted .472 with 25 hits, 13 runs, a double and three RBI.
Alexis Resto,
Sydney Chenoweth and
Brianna Malvino each collected one hits in the win.
Chenoweth earned the complete-game victory and is now 3-1 on the season. She allowed three hits, struck out two and walked one.
Game Two - WestConn 0, Emerson College 5 highlights:
Madison Zicchinelli belted a double as five Wolves registered a base hit in the loss to the Lions.
Rachael Ushka went hitless but was stranded on base four times in the Florida finale.

Sydney Chenoweth and
Jada Miconi were the other WestConn players with a hit.
Junior first baseman Makenzie Killough pounded a grand-slam home run in the third inning and Emerson never looked back.
Sophomore
Karly Vito suffered the loss for the Wolves and heads home with a 1-1 record. She allowed four runs on five hits, struck out five and walked two in four innings of work.
Kaitlyn Dean worked the final two innings for WestConn. She allowed one run on four hits and had one strike out.
Up Next on Saturday April 1:
WestConn will enjoy two weeks off before returning to action in the Little East Conference. It travels to University of Southern Maine for a noon twinbill with the Huskies. It begins a string of four doubleheaders in eight days for the Wolves.
