PURCHASE, N.Y. - Sophomore first baseman
Amber Roggendorf (Great Neck, N.Y.) collected three hits, including her first collegiate home run, but the Western Connecticut State University softball team dropped a doubleheader at Manhattanville College, 5-1 and 11-5, on a chilly Friday afternoon.
In the opener, Roggendorf went 1-of-3 and joined junior starting pitcher
Sydney Chenoweth (Baldwinville, Mass.) as the only Wolves with a hit. In the second game, Roggendorf belted a solo home run, collected a pair of hits and drove in a pair runs.
In the center circle, Chenoweth fell to 3-2 on the season after allowing three runs, two of them earned, on four hits. She struck out two and walked one Valiant.
Manhattanville pitcher Charli Shinstine was stellar for the winners of six straight. She struck out 18 and did not yield a free pass. Shinstine allowed an unearned run and improved to 7-0 on the season. She later came in for a relief appearance in the nightcap and struck out three more WestConn batters.
Junior
Rachael Ushka (Southbury, Conn.) and Alex Resto (Shelton, Conn.) each had two hits in the second game. Ushka drove in a pair of runs with a triple.

Jada Miconi (North Branford, Conn.) each belted a double in the second of two.Â
Olivia Bordenero (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) suffered her first loss of the season and is now 3-1 for the Wolves. She allowed 10 of the 11 runs on 10 hits and walked four.
Emily Mottoshiski improved to 3-4 for the 10-4 Valiants. She allowed five runs on nine hits, struck out five and walked one for the winners.
WestConn, now 10-8 after its third straight loss, open its Little East Conference slate on Sunday, April 2 at University of Southern Maine. First pitch is scheduled is scheduled for 11:30 am in Gorham, Me.
