DANBURY, Conn. - Junior midfielders
Adriana Alfano (New Milford, Conn.) and
Mackenzie Sam (Brookfield, Conn.) notched a goal and an assist each to lead the Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 7-0 win over the visiting City College of New York Beavers in women's soccer action tis afternoon at Westside Complex. WestConn improves to 6-4-4 and has won its last four games by a combined score of 24-0. CCNY falls to 4-5. The Wolves return to Little East Conference (LEC) play on Wednesday with a road match against Eastern Connecticut at 6 p.m.
WestConn dominated from the first minute, as an early goal by junior
Myah Croze (Bristol, Conn.) was nullified due to an offsides before junior forward
Suzana Imetovski (Seymour, Conn.) broke through in the 11th minute for the game's first tally. Croze scored on a direct kick from the right side two minutes later, and the WestConn's third goal came on a fantastic pass from deep in the right corner by Alfano that found its way to Sam's foot for an easy tap-in 25:38 into the game. Kyla Norton (East Hampton, Conn.) scored moments later to give the Wolves a 4-0 lead the break.
Three different Wolves scored in the second half to give the home team seven goal scorers in the game. Alfano and sophomore back
Sophia Onek (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scored less than two minutes apart on feeds by sophomore
Miranda Martincic (Whitestone, N.Y.) in the second stanza, while rookie
Jordan Breier (Huntington, N.Y.) finished the scoring with a goal from Sam with two seconds left on the clock. WestConn outshot CCNY, 37-4, as Beaver goalies Amelia Cataldo and Ashley Allison combined for 14 saves. Freshman Delaney Flynn-Kirschner (Ashford, Conn.) made the lone stop for the Wolves, who played three goalkeepers.
