BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Western Connecticut State University men's and women's swim teams opened the season at the SLC Sprint Carnival hosted by Sarah Lawrence College at the Campbell Sports Center Pool on Saturday afternoon.
The men fell to William Paterson University, 136-75, before downing Bard College, 117-57, and host Sarah Lawrence, 135-42. The women's side faced some tough opponents as they dropped all three contests, falling to William Paterson, 123-41. They were then edged by Bard 134-46 before rounding out the afternoon with a loss to host Sarah Lawrence, 159.50 - 38.50.Â
Junior
Rafael Masbad (Ansonia, Conn.) and rookie
Eric Quiterio (Windsor, Conn.) paced the men with first place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard IM, respectively. Masbad clocked a 53.22 finish, while Quiterio touched the wall in 1:02.82. Sophomore
Ian Chen nearly notched a win too, but took home a respectable second place showing in the 100-yard backstroke.
First-year swimmer
Emily Kiernan (Watertown, Conn.) notched the best showing to pace the women. She took home the second spot in the 50-yard butterfly, notching a time of 30.22.Â
The Wolves return to the pool when they host FDU-Florham on Saturday at Noon.
